My learnings and reflection on this course
As a planning student that grew up in mainland China, I have noticed the differences in political and legal contexts of planning practices between Canada and China. Taking online courses back home in China was an unique opportunity that allowed me to analyze the urban design of my hometown with the standards developed over 9,000 km away from home. While I found the North American standard of active transportation design applicable and relevant in a coastal city in Southern China, I also realize the importance of taking into account the local conditions in practice.
